Board of Directors – Biographies
Dr. William G. Howard - Director and Chairman of the Board
Dr. Howard has served as a director of the Company since July 1994. Since September 1990, Dr. Howard has been an independent engineering consultant to various entities, including SEMATECH, the Semiconductor Industry Association and Dow Corning. From October 1987 until December 1990, he served as a Senior Fellow at the National Academy of Engineering while on leave from Motorola. From 1969 to 1990, Dr. Howard was employed by Motorola where he most recently served as Corporate Senior Vice President and Director of Research and Development. Dr. Howard is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Howard is the Chairman of Credence Systems, Inc., a public company that manufactures electronic test equipment. Dr. Howard is also a director of BEI Technologies, Inc., a public company that manufactures electronic sensors; and Xilinx, Inc., a public company that manufactures integrated circuits.
Mr. William W. Staunton III - Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Staunton joined Ramtron in January 2001 from Space Electronics, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company and supplier of microelectronics for space and high-reliability applications, where he served as chief operating officer. Earlier, he was executive vice president of Valor Electronics, managing the company's business units, design and manufacturing engineering and quality-reliability functions, as well as worldwide manufacturing operations. Prior to Valor Electronics, Staunton served as vice president, quality and reliability, for Applied Microcircuits Corporation. Previously, he held a variety of operations-management positions with Motorola and Burr-Brown Research Corporation. Staunton holds a BSEE degree from Utah State University.
Mr. Eric A. Balzer - Director and Chief Financial Officer
Eric A. Balzer, Eric Balzer became a director of Ramtron in 1998 and served on Ramtron's audit committee from 1999 to 2004. From 1990 until his retirement in 1999, Mr. Balzer served as senior vice president of operations for Advanced Energy Industries, Inc., which develops, manufactures and markets power conversion devices for the semiconductor equipment industry. Earlier, Mr. Balzer held corporate finance positions at various organizations including controller for IBM’s Corporate Systems Technology Division, VP of finance and administration for Lewis Energy, as well as accounting manager and internal auditor for Shell Oil. Mr. Balzer holds a bachelors’ degree in Finance from the University of Colorado.
Mr. Theodore J. Coburn - Director
Theodore J. Coburn is president of the Coburn Capital Group, a boutique investment bank based in New York City. The firm provides advisory services for corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions (M&A), with a particular focus on emerging and mid-capitalization public companies and private companies. Mr. Coburn is also a partner of Triton Real Estate Partners, a real estate development company. He is actively involved in the mutual fund industry, serving on a number of fund boards, and is chairman of the Allianz Global Investors Mutual Funds. Mr. Coburn received a B.S. degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Virginia; an M.B.A. degree from Columbia Graduate School of Business; and a Master of Divinity degree, a Masters degree in Education, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Cognitive Development from Harvard University.
Dr. William L. George - Director
William George, a 30-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, currently directs worldwide manufacturing operations and order fulfillment for ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), which spun off from Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) in 1999. As senior vice president of Operations at ON, Dr. George oversees technology deployment, manufacturing, quality and reliability, purchasing, and order fulfillment operations at the company’s facilities in the U.S., China, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Japan, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Prior to ON Semiconductor, Dr. George served as corporate vice president and director of Manufacturing for Motorola's Semiconductor Components Group. In that role, he led the group’s worldwide manufacturing operations, including fabrication and final manufacturing plants in Asia, Europe and the Americas. Dr. George received a B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Purdue University.
Mr. Eric Kuo - Director
Eric Kuo, a 30-year veteran in the semiconductor industry, is currently engaged as a consultant and advisor to the CEO of ICbank, a leading component business-to-business and business-to-consumer firm in Korea. Mr. Kuo is also a consultant and advisor to the management team of EEfocus, a leading electronics media company in Beijing. Mr. Kuo retired from Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) in December 2007 as President and Managing Director of Asia Pacific, where he was responsible for expanding Fairchild’s business in Asia, with an emphasis on greater China. Prior to joining Fairchild, Mr. Kuo was Director of Marketing for the Discrete Power and Signal Technologies Group at National Semiconductor (NYSE: NSM) in California. Mr. Kuo also held various senior level sales and marketing management and business development positions at National Semiconductor in the Asia Pacific region. Mr. Kuo received a B.S. degree in Management at National Chung Hsin University in Taiwan and his M.B.A. at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA.
Mr. Jack L. Saltich - Director
Until his retirement in August 2005, Mr. Saltich served as president and chief executive officer of Three-Five Systems, Inc. (OTCBB: TFSI), a global provider of electronics manufacturing services. He is on the board of Leadis Technology, a supplier of mixed-signal semiconductors for small panel displays used in mobile handsets and consumer electronic devices, and a director of Immersion Corporation (Nasdaq: IMMR), which specializes in the deployment of haptics technology. He is also on the board of privately held Vitex Systems, Inc., which targets the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) and flexible display markets. Mr. Saltich received both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois.
